Continuous Service | Spalding University Policy Guide

5.2.1: Continuous Service

An employee’s employment date is the actual date the employee begins to work for the University. It does not change during continuous full-time or part-time employment and is used for determining benefits eligibility. Continuous service is employment without a break in service and includes authorized leaves of absence with or without pay. Voluntary termination if not re-employed within one year of termination date and involuntary termination shall constitute a break in continuous service, and all benefits eligibility shall be forfeited. Former employees rehired within one year of voluntary termination will be credited with their prior service in the determination of their benefits status. An employee in a temporary position who is subsequently appointed to the same position on a regular basis with no break in service will be granted continuous service credit from the date hired in the temporary position.
