2.3.0.0: Holiday Policy

Official University holidays will be announced prior to the beginning of each calendar year. The following will be granted as holidays with pay to eligible full-time employees:

New Year’s Day

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Presidents’ Day

Good Friday

Oaks Day (Derby eve)

Memorial Day

Juneteenth

Independence Day

Labor Day

Thanksgiving (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday)

Christmas through New Year’s Day (varies annually, check University website)

If Independence Day falls on Saturday, it will be observed on the preceding Friday; if the holiday falls on Sunday, it will be observed on the following Monday.

Full-time, non-exempt employees will be entitled to receive holiday benefits provided the employee is not absent on the regularly scheduled workday prior to or following the holiday. Exceptions will be made for absences due to the following circumstances: illness, which is substantiated by a doctor’s note; jury duty; death of a family or household member; or other scheduled paid time off. If a non-exempt employee works on a holiday, such employee will be paid for the holiday and for the hours worked. Hours worked on a holiday will be paid as additional straight time. Part-time employees are not eligible for holiday pay.
